Psychotherapy

I believe that anyone can benefit from psychotherapy, whether you are dealing with a passing crisis or long held feelings of anxiety, sadness, helplessness, uncontrollable mood swings, difficulties with interpersonal issues or being held back by a trauma.

My psychodynamic approach to therapy will help you to move past negative patterns of thinking and behavior and allow you to realize your true potential by tapping into powerful life forces which are being blocked by unresolved inner conflicts.

“There can be no progress except in the individual and by the individual himself.”  - Charles Baudelaire

Supportive Psychotherapy

If you have a loved one who suffers from a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar or schizoaffective disorder, you need support. You need support for the tremendous strain a loved one’s illness puts on you. You will learn how to recognize and face emotions that weigh you down and learn how to set realistic boundaries that will help you navigate your relationship. If you have a loved one who has taken their own life, I will offer you a safe place to grieve and sort out the tangle of emotions experienced by survivors of such a devastating loss.

“Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”  - Leo Tolstoy

Psychoanalysis

There are many misconceptions surrounding analysis. You may envision a disengaged analyst who listens and rarely responds. Like all techniques, psychoanalysis has evolved since its inception. There are many types of psychoanalysis, including Modern Freudian, Self, Object Relations, Interpersonal and Relational. I practice a combination of Object Relations and Relational analysis. This is a collaborative process with a dialogue between patient and analyst.

In my opinion, psychoanalysis offers the greatest hope for personal growth. It involves a serious commitment, and like any serious commitment, the rewards reflect the effort involved. You will gain insight into past relationships and your own psychic structure. It is a process of liberation where you will learn to harness the power of your psyche and how to connect to yourself and others in a deep and meaningful way.

“The past isn’t over, it isn’t even past”  - William Faulkner
